Faith before Facts

Just after praying for my dad to be cleared of cancer by year end, we found out last night that my dad's MRI results showed metastasis.

Metastasis is the spread of cancer from one part of the body to another. The results show his liver to be ill-defined which means that the cancer must have spread from his colon to his liver...

When my sister told me last night on the way home from the prayer meeting, I was stunned. I was already elated and I thought that my dad's health was going uphill since he was discharged from the hospital. His other results showed good signs, but the MRI showed a different one -- the metastasis is an indication that from stage 3 cancer, it's possible that it's now on stage 4.

I was quiet on the way home except for validating the findings to my sister... "So possible palang diba, hindi pa nila talaga sure na yun nga yung cause?" "Kelan natin malalaman yung talagang results?"

But according to her, that was it. Medical results have their own lingo, and since we have an in-house doctor for a sister who can very well interpret and make sense of the medical findings, that was it.

I remembered my prayer just the day before... for my dad to be cleared of cancer. Maybe God wanted me to pray for audacious, sun-stand-still prayer before He gives me the facts.

This is a testing of faith... I thought and asked myself whether I'm going to back down from that prayer, but today's devotion asked me to cling tighter to that faith goal and focus my eyes on Jesus because He has overcome the world. Our Sunday Service lesson last week was also a straight-cut answer: Anything is possible to him who believes. It doesn't get any clearer than that. We have to hold fast to what we believe in -- no matter how seemingly impossible the facts show... We're waiting for a miracle. We're holding on to you, Jesus.

"For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith. Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?" 1 John 5:4-5
